REMEMBRANCE DAY

The Remembrance Day Ceremony has played a major role in Remembrance since 1931. Every year, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we gather in memorial parks, community halls, workplaces, schools and homes to stand in honour of all who have fallen. Together, we observe a moment of silence to mark the sacrifice of the many who have fallen in the service of their country, and to acknowledge the courage of those who still serve.

On Remembrance Day, at the Port Credit Legion, hundreds of people assemble and march to honour and remember those who have fallen to protect our freedoms.

REMEMBRANCE CEREMONies Across Canada

Legion members take pride in organizing Remembrance Day Ceremonies in over 1,400 Branches across Canada and abroad. Through each Branch, the Legion continues the traditions of Remembrance so that Canada ‘never forgets.’

of Silence

The most sacrosanct and central element in Remembrance is the Two Minutes of Silence.

The Memorial Cross (more often referred to as the Silver Cross) was first authorized on December 1, 1919 as a memento of personal loss and sacrifice on the part of widows and mothers of Canadian sailors, aviators and soldiers who died for their country during the war.

The Royal Canadian Legion makes wreaths available for purchase through Legion Branches for anyone wishing to place a wreath at a commemorative event.

Memorials &

Cenotaphs

To promote Remembrance, The Royal Canadian Legion erects and maintains war memorials and cenotaphs across Canada, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
